The Paleface Parabola - 01-07-2026
Who are those masked men? Well, it’s a team six strong to make this tour de farce whatever it is. When the smoke clears from Studio A however, the Mystery Man and I are the men who bring the show to a boil with merry music and merry making. It’s a mercurial and movable feast this show is.And we wouldn’t do it any other way. This week’s way is the usual wander where we get lost and don’t try to be found. Oft times, that’s the real American way. The journey, not the destination as it were. To prepare you for the programme, a peek underneath our kimono... Solid sound senders from the vast options of the last 100 years to choose from… Five-plus honourable mentions this week. The Fleshtones, Sugar Pie Desanto & Etta James, The Aggrolites, Help Yourself, and the Buddha of the Blues, Willie Dixon! The Mystery Man contributed Te Vaka from close to our home base. A programming note for next week’s Parabola. Ricardo, the co-host of the former Free Fm 89.0 mania called the Outer Limits Frequency, will sit in for us during the Free FM music zone so we can have our own midsummer’s dream – aka a badly needed reset show-wise, and extra time to savagely tan by the cement pond. Ricardo is a fellow madman. You’ll be in hands of articulation and joy. That’s our tale from all these miles away. Back to love you long time in two weeks

Distortion of Power
Free FM contributor Art Deale presents a set of songs inspired by a man whose life story reads like a cautionary tale written in gold Sharpie. His career is a frantic montage of litigation and bizarre and dangerous caps-lock social media posts. Whether he’s being deified in country anthems or eviscerated in punk tracks, he remains the world’s loudest muse.

The Sandwich Club Ep 11 - Money Money Money
Money Money Money Money has a funny way of getting louder as we get older. In this episode, we're talking about retirement worries, second jobs, side hustles, budgeting, and the strange things we're willing to spend money on while telling ourselves we need to cut back. We're also exploring whether AI can help us get our finances under control—or whether it's just another thing we're paying for. Most of us thought we'd feel more financially sorted by now. Instead, we're still making it up as we go, just with bigger numbers and slightly more expensive mistakes. The Sandwich Club is for women in the middle — juggling kids, parents, work, money, bodies and everything in between.

The Joy of Classical Music Ep 161 - The Outsiders
The Joy of Classical Music - Episode 161: The Outsiders. What is an outsider composer? Generally outsider composers occupy the fringes of the classical tradition. Creating music on their own terms, they are unconcerned with accepted rules, prevailing fashions or institutional approval. Some build entirely new physical instruments to reproduce the sounds they hear in their heads and they often create their own notation systems, scales, or tuning structures. That’s Moondog and Harry Partch, but Julius Eastman was a different kind of outsider, one made by conviction, circumstance and temperament. Moondog - All Is Loneliness The Partch Ensemble perform Harry Partch - The Letter Wild Up performs Julius Eastman - Stay On It London Brass and London Saxophonic and Moondog perform Moondog - Invocation The Partch Ensemble performs Harry Partch - U.S. Highball
